Azerbaijan British College

Azerbaijan British College (ABC) is a modern educational complex funded by SOCAR. The college was established as a British school in 2012 and started operating on the 1st of November of the same year with a preschool and first grade after a three-month intensive course at SOCAR’s Training Centre.

This is a leading educational institution offering kindergarten, Primary and Secondary education. Currently students from 20 different countries, including Azerbaijan, are studying at ABC. 25 expats and 80 local teachers deliver the British National Curriculum. Following the requirements of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Azerbaijan, additional lessons such as Azerbaijan language and literature, and history have been included to the curriculum. The school’s local teaching staff are being sent to the University of Nottingham in the UK for professional development courses to enhance their knowledge and skills and gain new experiences.

Students at ABC passed the average results in the world on Checkpoint exams with the subjects Mathematics, English and Natural Science. ABC has gained licenses from the world famous examination centres such as Cambridge International Exams and Edexcel, and organised the first international exams at the end of the academic year 2016-2017.

ABC stands out for its high results in the international IGCSE exams conducted by the Cambridge International Examination Centre. ABC students have successfully participated in various international competitions since 2017 and have been awarded medals. College graduates have been accepted to the most prestigious universities in the world (Oxford, Loughborough, Calgary) and continue their education.

ABC has also been accredited by different international education councils. The school, which has been a member of the COBIS - British Council of International Schools for several years, has recently gained fully accreditation from the CIS - Council of International Schools. ABC also has a membership with ECIS - The Educational Collaborative for International Schools.

ABC organises summer schools for children aged 5-10 from both private and state schools. Additionally in the framework of summer school swimming lessons, developmental creative classes have been taught. Watching films in English at the Planetarium, the only school planetarium in Azerbaijan, and then discussing the films with children has a positive effect on the development of their communication skills, as well as their physical and mental development.

The school, which pays special attention to the effectiveness of communication with parents, started implementing the iSAMS School Information Management System last school year.
