Caspian Drilling Company LLC


Caspian Drilling Company Limited LLC (hereafter CDC) was founded in 1996 as the first joint venture in the Republic of Azerbaijan, dedicated to exploration and drilling activities within the ambit of the "Contract of the Century." The company primarily specialize on the repair, modernization and provision of technical services for floating offshore drilling rigs as well as provision of drilling services in all phases of exploration and development of the offshore fields.

CDC has served as the main contractor for the 16 Production Sharing Agreements in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, focusing on exploration and drilling operations. Utilizing the company's "Istiglal" and "Dada Gorgud" floating drilling rigs, a total of 100 deep exploration wells were drilled across 14 geological structures within Karabagh, Ashrafi, Dan Ulduzu, Azeri, Chirag, Guneshli, Shah Deniz, Nakhchivan, Absheron, Inam, Kurdashi and Araz offshore formations, 114 directional and horizontal wells were drilled within the Eastern Azeri, Western Azeri and Central Azeri fields. These drilling activities led to the discovery of the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli and Shah Deniz deposits.

In addition to modernizing the “Istiglal” and “Dada Gorgud” semi-submersible drilling rigs, CDC also spearheaded the construction of the 6th generation semi-submersible rig named after Heydar Aliyev, which was utilized for drilling operations on the Absheron and Shafag-Asiman gas fields. Currently “Heydar Aliyev” semi-submersible rig continue drilling activities on "Shahdeniz” field.

Furthermore, CDC has conducted drilling operations for Israel, including two exploration wells in the Mediterranean. CDC participated in large project in Turkey. 6th generation Fatih drilling rig was reactivated and one exploration well drilled.

In the Kazakhstan sector of the Caspian Sea, one exploration well was drilled using the "Dada Gorgud" semi-submersible drilling rig.

Also, through a joint operation agreement with the Kazmunaygaz company of Kazakhstan, CDC managed the transportation of the "SATTI" jackup drilling rig from Kazakhstan to Azerbaijan. Subsequently, under CDC operatorship the rig underwent modernization and was utilized to drill three exploration wells in the Shallow Water Absheron Peninsula (SWAP) field.
