Polypropylene Plant (SOCAR Polymer LLC)

The Polypropylene (PP) Plant, which is one of the production facilities of the SOCAR Polymer Company established on 16 July 2013, was commissioned on 18 July 2018 at the opening ceremony held with the participation of the President of the Azerbaijan Republic Mr. Ilham Aliyev.

Together with the HDPE plant, the PP plant is the final link in an integrated economic value chain consisting of the Heydar Aliyev Oil Refinery and the Azerikimya Ethylene & Polyethylene Plant. Combining these enterprises as raw material suppliers in a single value chain ensures their high operational efficiency.

The Polypropylene Plant, operating on technology acquired from LyondellBasell, meets high standards of production process and product quality assurance. To achieve the high quality of the polymer grades produced at the PP plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and ensure customer satisfaction, a laboratory equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and conducting various tests is operated 24/7 at the production site.

The PP plant produces Polypropylene Homopolymers, Random Copolymers of Ethylene and Propylene and Heterophasic types of Ethylene and Propylene Copolymers.

Examples of Homopolymer grades produced include HB2500GP, HB3500GP, HB4500GP, HB6500GP, and the like. Homopolymers are used in the manufacture of many mobile accessories and various household items. Grades HB0256FR, HB0356FR, and the like, which are known in the polymer field as “raffia”, are used in the production of polymer yarns of various sizes used in agriculture and household applications. HB2659FC and similar grades are used in the production of carpets and textile products used in daily life. The PP plant also produces the HB2662FS grade, which is used in the production of nonwoven fabrics by extrusion as well as in the production of various types of fabric medical masks.

CB1640MO, CB2248MO, CB3648MO, CB4848MO, CB6448MO and similar grades, which belong to the Heterophasic block Ethylene-Propylene Copolymer type of Polypropylene, are used in the production of opaque boxes, sporting goods, toys, and household items designed for various purposes. These grades have good processing properties and good hardness suitable for various processing speeds. In addition, CB0900MO grade produced by the PP plant is used in the automotive industry to produce highly rigid and impact-resistant car parts, as well as battery cases. CB0140BM and CB0120BM grades are used in the production of various pipes, trunks, panels, and profiles by the blow molding method. These products have high hardness, as well as good resistance to frost and impact.

The PP plant produces various grades such as RB3545MO, RB4545MO, RB6545MO, etc., belonging to the type of random copolymer of ethylene and propylene. These grades have been designed to manufacture transparent and high-rigid ware and containers of various sizes by using the thin-wall injection molding processing method.

Polypropylene products, most of which are meant for export, are in sufficient demand in the domestic market as well. As of October 2024, the Company's PP export geography includes Ukraine, Turkey, China, Austria, Poland, Bulgaria, Lithuania, Turkmenistan, Georgia, Thailand, Romania, Belgium, Nigeria, Peru, and several CIS countries, totaling in 18 countries. The first overseas sale was made to Turkey in October 2018.
