The State Oil Company of the Republic of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) opened its first European representative office in Romania with the objective of supplying oil and gas resources from the Caspian Sea to the markets of European Union member states through Romania, which was regarded as a gateway to Eastern Europe, in 2007.

SOCAR established its subsidiary, SOCAR Petroleum S.A., in Romania with the aim of organizing the wholesale and retail trade of petroleum products and providing high-quality supply services in accordance with international standards in 2011. In the same year, the Company entered the Romanian market by launching 11 filling stations under the SOCAR brand, thereby commencing the wholesale and retail sale of petroleum products in the country.

Currently, SOCAR Petroleum S.A. operates a network of 102 filling stations under the SOCAR brand in Romania.

Throughout this period, the Company has continued to expand its operations, providing customers not only with high-quality fuel products but also with a high level of service. At its filling stations, customers can purchase gasoline (Nano 95 and Nano 98), diesel (Nano Diesel and Nano Super Diesel), and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG).

At the “Cafe Nar” outlets located at SOCAR filling stations, customers can purchase both locally sourced products and products imported from Azerbaijan, including Azərçay tea and pomegranate juice. To promote the “Made in Azerbaijan” brand, dedicated Azerbaijan-themed corners have been established at the stations. Promotional video content showcasing Azerbaijan is also regularly displayed on monitors installed at all SOCAR stations across the country.

SOCAR Petroleum S.A. operates four petroleum product storage facilities located in the Romanian cities of Teiuș, Onești, Constanța, and Halmeu. The total storage capacity of these facilities is approximately 50,000 cubic meters.

As a result of the investments made by the Company in the Romanian economy to date, approximately 850 new jobs have been created, and this number continues to grow.

The Company has been expanding its business activities in Romania year after year by opening new filling stations and broadening the scope of its operations. Today, SOCAR Petroleum S.A. has become a key player in the Romanian market through the sale of fuels, including diesel, gasoline, and bitumen, as well as petrochemical products such as methanol, petroleum coke, and urea, in addition to providing various related services.

SOCAR Petroleum S.A. uses the “SOCAR FUEL UP” app to encourage its loyal and business customers (B2C) to return to its filling stations. Various bonuses are offered to strengthen customer loyalty and foster long-term customer relationships. (https://fuelup.socar.ro/)

Through the “SOCAR Pay” app, customers can quickly locate the nearest SOCAR-branded filling stations and refuel their vehicles. A key feature of the app is that drivers can make fuel payments directly through the “SOCAR Pay” app without the need to carry a physical payment card. (https://socar.ro/socar-pay/)

In addition, particularly during peak hours, customers can save time by making payments at terminals installed directly at the fuel pumps (“Outdoor Payment Terminals”) after refueling their vehicles. This eliminates the need to make payments at the cashier. .(https://socar.ro/en/services-english-2/)

The Company consistently supports projects and initiatives aimed at organizing social and cultural events related to Azerbaijan and promoting awareness among the Romanian public of Azerbaijan’s realities and achievements. SOCAR Petroleum S.A. also actively represents Azerbaijan at international energy summits, oil and gas conferences, and exhibitions, providing participants with comprehensive information about the country’s achievements in the energy sector and the projects being implemented.
