Sumgayit Training and Education Centre (STEC) of SOCAR’s Training, Education and Certification Department, opened in 2012, and provides highly qualified personnel training for Azerkimya Production Association, Urea Plant, SOCAR Polymer LLC, as well as other industrial enterprises in Sumgayit. The centre has training rooms for repair and maintenance of electrical equipment, control and measuring devices and automation, welding, occupational safety and health, as well as technicians, machinists, locksmiths and electric gas welders.
With the support of the Japanese company Yokogawa Electric Corporation (Yokogawa Electric CIS Ltd – head office for CIS), the training room at STEC is designed for training in automatic control systems, software, CENTUM and ProSafe systems. The main goal is to apply the latest technologies in the field of automation and control and measuring devices in Azerbaijan and increase the knowledge of local specialists in this area.
The education centre offers training in the following trades:
- electric gas welding
- control and measuring devices, automation
- compression facilities operator
- mechanic fitter
- operator
- electric equipment fitter and operator
- machinist
- other professions
The centre also supports the professionals working at the SOCAR’s enterprises in retraining, improving their skills and gaining a new profession.
Alongside the centre’s specialised workshops, students regularly attend internships at the workshops and production facilities of the Azerikimya’s Ethylene-Polyethylene Factory. This experience plays an important role in the future adaptation of workers to production process, in gaining experience in the chosen professions from the very beginning, and in mastering labour skills more diligently.
Based on the rapid integration of Azerbaijan’s economy into the world economy and the active participation of young professionals in this process, future professionals are taught computer programmes and foreign languages. Regardless of the profession, the centre also has a special training room for each worker to master the rules of labour protection and safety.
Students are provided with special clothing, a monthly bursary and free dinner during their studies at the centre.
To participate in the competition organised by SOCAR’s Human Resources Department (HRD) on the process of enrolling students in specialties taught at STEC for 6 months or a year, you may visit www.socar.az to apply (e-application) to the Admission to the Training Centre subsection under the Career menu. Candidates are admitted to the second stage of the competition if they meet the conditions specified in the Rules for admission of students to SOCAR’s training centres. The second stage of the competition is an interviews / document verification. Those who succeed in the interviews get the right to participate in the third stage of the competition - the test exam. The candidates with the highest scores in the test are eligible to study at the training centre.
Young people who meet the following requirements can participate in the competition for admission to STEC:
- Citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan;
- Under 29 years of age by the date of the competition;
- Secondary special education, initial vocational education or at least complete secondary education (currently young people with continuing education and higher education cannot apply);
- Military ID (applicants for the “Shooter” profession must have served in the military, regardless of whether they have served in the military in other professions).
The following documents are required for the interview:
- Identity card (original)
- Diploma or certificate (original)
- Original military ID (for men)
- Health certificate (Form 86)
- X-ray (fluorography, it is necessary to bring a picture of fluorography)
- IDP card (for residents of Sumgayit city and Absheron region)
- BC category driver’s license (Applicants to the profession of loader driver)
